Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest and most beautiful mountain, and it symbolizes Japan.
However, it is an active volcano and there is a possibility of eruption. In the past, Mount Fuji has erupted several times.
After a large-scale collapse of the mountain about 20,000 years ago, Mount Fuji experienced large-scale lava flows from around 17,000 to 8,000 years ago, and major volcanic eruptions that raised the main volcanic body from around 5,600 to 3,700 years ago.
I have created an imaginary image based on the phrase “Mount Fuji Eruption”.
富士山噴火
There have been 16 recorded eruptions of Mount Fuji since 781 AD.
During the Heian period, there were about 10 eruptions and volcanic activities such as the Hiei eruption (800-802) and the Jogan eruption (864-866) based on the analysis of multiple historical documents and geological surveys.
The three major eruptions of Mount Fuji are the Hiei eruption, the Jogan eruption, and Hoei eruption (1707).
Although it is not possible to predict accurately whether Mount Fuji will erupt in the future, based on records of past eruptions and geological surveys, there is a possibility of eruption at some point.

In March 2021, a new evacuation plan was created in Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures, assuming an eruption of Mount Fuji. In addition, in March 2021, the damage prediction was revised, with logistics completely disrupted and lava flows extending tens of kilometers and causing widespread damage.
f Mount Fuji were to erupt, there would be damage such as houses collapsing and farmland being buried in large amounts of volcanic ash in the surrounding area.
Long-term soil and flood disasters may also occur due to the flowing ash.
There is also concern about damage to power plants, water supply and sewage systems, and transmission lines, as well as the impact of fine volcanic ash entering computers, cars, and other machinery.
According to estimates by the Japanese government, the damage to the Tokyo metropolitan area from an eruption of Mount Fuji would be around 25 trillion yen.
